Fulfen Fabio hits 580gns at Melton Mowbray

Shearling ram Fulfen Fabio from Emily Yates took the day’s top price at the Southdown Sheep Society’s second sale of the season at Melton Mowbray.

Sired by Chaileybrook Diablo and out of a dam by the imported sire Ibanez, this one had stood reserve male champion in the pre-sale show and sold to the Morton family’s Blackfriar flock, Lincolnshire 

Next best at 560gns was another shearling ram, this time from Jessica Stanger. This was Meadow Grant, a Sutherland Adam son out of a Chaileybrook-bred dam by Sarkozy. He sold to Adam New, Bampton, Oxfordshire, for the Glebourton flock.

Then making 260gns was the top priced ewe lamb of the day from Emily Yates, Fulfen Galibier. She’s by the homebred Fulfen Boomer and out of a dam by the imported sire Breton and again sold to Emma Merricks.

And at 300gns was a shearling ram from Stephen and Paul Humphrey. This was East Dean 23/06223. By the homebred East Dean 15/02345 and out of a dam by Ridings 11/00743, he sold to Patrick Goldsworthy for the Webb Ellis and Heritage flocks, Cambridgeshire.

Wrapping up the best of the male trade was a 240gns call for ram lamb Sheepcote Ivanhoe from Ben Slack and Katy Gibson. He’s by Chaileybrook 22/01346 and out of a dam by Holly Bar Rascal and was bought by Emma Merricks, Kent, for the Copperfield flock.

Females

Leading the female trade were a trio of 350gns calls, all for shearling ewes from James Langmead’s Basing flock. First at this price was the second prize shearling ewe from the pre-sale show, Basing Kitkat. Sired by the homebred Basing Huntsman and out of a dam by Goodwood Damned, she sold to Zara Rawding for the New Cloud flock, Bedfordshire.

The same buyer then paid the same money for Basing Kindly, an East Dean 21/05278 daughter out of a dam by Southern Cross 14/00529.

And the final one at this money was Basing Koala. Again by the East Dean sire and out of a daughter of Southern Cross 14/00529, she was bought by previous buyer Emma Merricks.

The same buyer then took two at 310gns, the first of which was Avenue Farm Betty from Lorraine Levell. This Avenue Farm Moonlight daughter is out of a dam by East Dean 17/03236.

The other at this price was Avenue Farm Barbara, again from Lorraine Levell and a full sister to the previous lot. She was again taken by Emma Merricks.

Then making 260gns was the top priced ewe lamb of the day from Emily Yates, Fulfen Galibier. She’s by the homebred Fulfen Boomer and out of a dam by the imported sire Macron and again sold to Emma Merricks.

Close behind at 250gns was another of Lorraine Levell’s shearling ewes, Avenue Farm Orianna. By Chaileybrook 20/00709 and out of a dam by Offham Prince Caspian she found a new home with Zara Rawding.

And making 240gns was a shearling ewe from Will Morton, Blackfriar 23/00913. She’s by the homebred Blackfriar 20/00492 and out of a dam by Chaileybrook 18/00302.
